NY Podiatrist Discusses Best Footwear for Neuropathy
Aesthetic podiatrist and board-certified podiatric foot surgeon Suzanne Levine, DPM emphasized that people with neuropathy often experience pain or numbness in the feet while driving or walking, especially at night. Dr. Levine also suggested looking for styles that are "soft and shock-absorbent with good ankle support."

Supportive shoes aren't the only way you can keep neuropathy at bay. Dr. Levine also suggests trying analgesic cream, wearing support stockings, or putting legs and feet up during the day. The best heels for neuropathy patients are low and chunky or wedges, according to Levine. If you'll be spending most of your time sporting sneakers and want to save a bit on special occasion shoes, heeled sandals are a worthy option with their thick ankle straps and solid heel.

Dermatopathologist Joins McClain Laboratories
McClain Laboratories, LLC has announced that Hong “Edwin” Jiang, MD, PhD has joined their team as Associate Dermatopathologist. Dr. Jiang is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Dermatopathology. Dr. Jiang’s extensive experience includes positions of Assistant Professor of Dermatopathology at Saint Louis University and fourteen years as a pathologist and dermatopathologist for well-known pathology laboratories in New York and Connecticut.

He is well published in the fields of dermatopathology, biochemistry, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

Why You Should Consider a Private Equity Offer For Your Practice
Healthcare practitioners are feeling the squeeze. A constellation of challenges has been making it harder to maintain a thriving, profitable practice. They didn't begin with Covid, but the pandemic accelerated trends that were already challenging the viability of smaller practices. Add diminishing Medicare reimbursements and supply-chain shortages that are driving up prices for essential consumables (syringes, cotton swabs, etc.), and you have an unforgiving set of market conditions. If a private equity firm makes a compelling offer for your practice, you should probably seriously consider it. Here’s what practice owners should know:
1. Possible buyers abound - Small practitioners who want to increase their scale and financial resources to remain financially viable have several options overall. One is a basic merger with another practice, which can achieve some economies of scale that the two independents would not enjoy on their own. Another is to be absorbed by and become an employee of a larger healthcare organization, which offers instant access to a greater level of institutional resources.

Dr. Williams, like others, will have his records "reviewed" so that insurance companies can come up with a "valid" reason to reject claims and demand refunds. I went through this many years ago. When money was demanded back from me by Medicare (after a review of 80 charts), I went to a lawyer, had my assets "protected", and then opted out of insurance and Medicare. That was 23 years ago.
Every day, I thank insurance companies for giving me grief over my extremely valuable protocols that have helped thousands of patients. I have no more stress and I work smart, not hard. The difference now is that my patients pay me and no insurance company gets to "review" my records.

We have had a few requests of around 75 patients. We also charged for each chart and refused to release the records until payment was received. We do get requests for a single patient only so it balances out.

The amount of "risk adjustment" chart requests is always commensurate with how many patients you have seen in the previous year with those particular MA plans. You see 50 patients with that MA plan, you get 50 chart requests. At least that has always been my experience. I went from charging $25 a chart in previous years to $50 a chart for 2021 charts. In 2023, I will up that to $75 a chart for 2022 charts.
CIOX or whoever is requesting the charts always pays what I invoice them for BEFORE I send the records. And yes, I have reviewed my insurance contracts to make sure this is legal. Bottom line is this: these MA plans are trying to get more money from Medicare, by doing these "risk adjustment" chart reviews. While I guess that is their prerogative, it is MY prerogative to make them pay for that "info". I can only hope at some point they realize they are paying more out for their "precious info" then they are taking in for it.

According to the U.S. News & World Report, pilots have better paying jobs than podiatrists. Airline pilots do earn good money after they become captains. However, these pilots did not earn really good money when they began. I understand that newly-minted podiatrists make as much as highly experienced airline pilots.
Is the income indicated in the magazine counting what these doctors earn during their residency? I believe a lot of young people reading this would not consider a career in podiatry if they thought that podiatry was not as lucrative as financial planning is for example.

Many of us walked the same steps as Dr. Roth. When I graduated from ICPM in 1981, there were not enough residences to go around, even shutting out many of us in the top 20% of my class. My previous comments were not meant to in any way to minimize the sacrifice which Dr. Roth and many of us made in obtaining the additional training required for us to obtain board certification. And as Dr. Roth appropriately commented, there certainly are consequences to every action we take or choose not to. However, that was not the poll question. The question had to do with board certification as a requirement for licensure.
My recent letter provided a thorough opinion on that subject that being, licensure first, followed by board certification (with fair access), and then proving that you can perform those procedures with minimal assistance... and in that order. Local facilities can do a far more effective job than a statewide mandate.
