INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHED PODIATRISTS
Aussie Podiatrist Releases Book to Counteract Chronic Disease

A Cairns podiatrist is encouraging Far North Queenslanders to increase movement and activity in an effort to counteract surging rates of chronic disease in Australians. Dr. Jeremy Hawke operates a podiatry clinic in Woree and is a former ballet dancer who trained at the Victorian College of Art in Melbourne. He has written a book, Let’s Learn About: Power of Activity, to encourage adults and kids to ditch laptops for leg lunges in a bid to become healthier.
Dr. Jeremy Hawke

“With a rising number of chronic diseases that are affecting the health of the Cairns community, it has been quite clearly pointed out that a lack of activity is one of the important factors in causing chronic diseases such as type two diabetes. I think in the digital age, it’s becoming more important to be consciously active," he said.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (EHR)
From: Gene Mirkin, DPM

I used ChartLogic from 2001-2007 for EMR. It worked phenomenally with Dragon. Before they had a billing platform, I also used AdvancedMD for billing. It was extremely robust and full of outstanding reports. I have no experience with the merged EHR, but individually, these programs were great. Together, I bet they are outstanding.

Having written that, I am currently using GE Centricity with Dragon...It's phenomonal!

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NEWS STORIES) - PART 1A
From: Arnold Ross, DPM, Bret Ribotsky, DPM

Kudos to Dr. Weil on the suit vs. Dr. Scholl's inserts. How many patients need custom orthotics and lose out by being fooled by this product presentation. I'm surprised the Scholl school never objected to this.

Arnold Ross, DPM, Los Angeles, CA

There is a reason Lowell Weil, Sr. is on the top of any list of DPMs in this country - he walks the talk. His bold action begs the question: Why aren't our national associations bringing such lawsuits? Speaking with ONE voice always seems best.

Bret Ribotsky, DPM, Boca Raton, FL

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NEWS STORIES) - PART 1B
From: Joseph Borreggine, DPM

I think it’s a good idea. I agree with Dr. Weil, et al. Podiatrists are the best at prescribing orthotics based on our knowledge, training, and experience. Through the years, it seems that everyone under the sun has cheapened this part of our profession.

"Everyone", but podiatrists, seemingly have an "orthotic" to sell, whether it was through infomercials back in the '90s, or with the defunct Good Feet Stores, and even with "Align" orthotics on Facebook, and finally with Dr. Scholl and Walmart selling...
