WA Podiatrist Discusses Heredity and Foot Structure
“Your foot is your foundation, and it's basically your transportation,” said Dr. Edward Chesnutis, a podiatrist with clinics in Silver Lake and Seattle, who treats twisted ankles, crooked toes, heel spurs, and — close your eyes if you're squeamish — crumbly fungal nails.
|
|
Dr. Edward Chesnutis |
Genetics shape your sole. Some people are born with flatter feet, others with higher arches. But you don't inherit foot problems, Chesnutis said, you inherit the form of the foot. If Mom and Grandma had bunions — swollen bumps on the inside of the foot — that doesn't mean bunions are hereditary, it means the bone structure is, and that structure can be prone to bunions. Throbbing feet aren't inevitable. “If you can make somebody's mechanics and posture more efficient, then theoretically you should be able to slow bad progressions down,” Chesnutis said.

Aussie Podiatrist Dies in Motorcycle Race Accident
A Lobethal man Jon Gutte, 55, died after a crash at McNamara Park, near Mount Gambier, on Saturday, exactly five weeks after a 54-year-old man was fatally injured at the same track.

Friends and family paid tribute on Facebook to Gutte, a podiatrist and vintage motoring enthusiast. “Words can’t express how sad and shocked we are. Jonny brought happiness to everyone,” one post says. Another says: “I am so sad for you, your beautiful girls and all those to whom Jon was a special person.”

IN Podiatrist Recognized as Young Professionals Leader
Columbus is about to identify its next generation of leaders. Community residents have an opportunity to recognize local young professionals for their success early in their careers through a new leadership program sponsored by the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce. The Columbus Young Professionals group, which recently reorganized under the chamber’s umbrella, is launching a next generation leadership program in January.

Three young professionals, who Columbus Young Professionals have already been identified as local leaders in one of the three areas, will be honored at the kickoff celebration, Worthington said. They include: Curtis Hartwell, Bartholomew County Public Library, for leadership in life; Dr. Brandon Gumbiner, Indiana Podiatry Group, for leadership in work; Elaine Wagner, District 2 city councilwoman, for leadership in the community.

NC Podiatrists Discuss How to Choose Proper Footwear
Choosing the correct footwear for your lifestyle, hobbies, and job can make the difference between comfort and suffering. Dr. Matthew Troxler of Kernodle Clinic and Dr. Matthew Wagoner of Triad Foot Center offered the following guidelines to choosing the best shoes for your feet. Look for support — Nix the flip-flops and flats for everyday wear. Shoes with the proper amount of support will stave off stress injuries and help treat existing strains.
|
|
Drs. Matthew Troxler and Matthew Wagoner |
Get fitted by a professional salesperson at a specialty shoe or athletics store — even if it costs a little more than at a discount chain. “They know their products and can recommend the right kind of shoe for you,” Wagoner said. Inserts and orthotics can help. Store-bought inserts usually provide more cushioning than support, but do help some people, Troxler said. Orthotics conform to and support the feet. You can purchase them over-the-counter, but if you’re spending more than $30 for them, you may be better off visiting a podiatrist for custom orthotics that will last longer and work better for you, Troxler said.

RE: CMS Adds Quality of Care Data on Docs to its Physician Compare Site
From: George Jacobson, DPM
When I clicked the CMS link, I discovered that under Board Certification, it lists me as "psychiatry". It does identify me with a DPM after my name and all the other information is correct. There is a retired psychiatrist with my same name in Miami, FL. I do not see a link to correct or report discrepancies. Does anyone know of a link to correct this?
