IL & CA Podiatrists Recommend Compression Socks for Plantar Fasciitis
If you've ever experienced plantar fasciitis, you know how agonizing it can be. The condition impacts a whopping 2 million Americans each year. There is good news: Plantar fasciitis is treatable. One go-to trick podiatrists prefer? Compression socks. "We use these regularly for our patients with plantar fasciitis," Melissa Lockwood, DPM, a podiatrist at Heartland Foot and Ankle Associates in Bloomington, IL, tells Yahoo Life. Compressing the plantar fascia "will help with both pain and inflammation of the affected ligament," Dr. Lockwood says.

"The goal of a compression sock for plantar fasciitis is to provide better support for the arch of the foot," Richard H. Graves, DPM, of Sol Foot & Ankle Centers in Longwood, CA, tells Yahoo Life. "Better support means less stress on the plantar fascia and, hopefully, relief of pain, or at least prevention of pain recurrence." Plantar fasciitis compression socks have a lot going for them, says Dr. Graves. They provide at least partial pain relief, can be worn with any type of shoe or even barefoot, and can be worn with orthotics. They're also easy to wash and wear.

MN Podiatrist and Shoe Designer Found Inspiration in Biomechanics Class
Marion Parke, DPM is the founder of the Marion Parke women’s footwear collection, but she’s also a licensed podiatric surgeon. She recalls a moment of inspiration: sitting in her first-year biomechanics class at the podiatry college she attended outside of Chicago, learning about different foot types. “And as I was listening to the description of what happens to people with high arches,” she says, “the anatomy of their feet, the problems that they have, I started realizing, gosh, all those problems really sound similar to the problems that women have when they’re wearing a high heel.”

Years later, she was living in Minnesota, working part time at a podiatric surgery clinic in Edina, very pregnant with her first child, buying up boxes of heels from DSW and slicing them up to find out how they were put together. She eventually found a shoemaker in Italy who helped her navigate the design and manufacture process, and she brought her first line of Marion Parke shoes to market in 2015.

It is with a sad and heavy heart that we announce the death of Dr. Stephen Vincent Corey. Steve 64, died on December 25, 2023. He attended the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine, in Philadelphia, PA, where he earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree.

He completed his residency in foot and ankle surgery at Northlake Regional Medical Center in Tucker, GA in 1989. He worked in Atlanta for three years before returning to his alma mater and becoming an Assistant Professor, instructor, and clinician at the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine. He was a member of the Podiatry Institute, and he served as Chairman of the State Board of Podiatry in South Carolina for many years.

This Act modifies and re-authorizes key programs that expand access to substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery. It is sponsored by Mr. Brett Guthrie and co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of 66 representatives.
