CODING & BILLING Q&As FROM CODINGHELPLINE.COM
Query: Secondary refuses to pay unless I have two patients with their insurance
My patient has Medicare primary and Magnacare secondary. I have been paid by Medicare already (the 80%). I have this only one patient with the Magnacare secondary coverage. I was told to go on to the Magnacare portal, which I did. However, they told me that to enroll I need to put in 2 patients.I don’t have a second patient to put in. They told me “too bad “about collecting the money on my one patient. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. It’s not the $28 dollars; I can survive without it. Have you ever heard of anything like this nonsense?

Response from Codinghelpline.com: I would take another approach. Sorry Mr./Mrs. patient but I do not participate with your secondary insurance and they refuse to pay me directly. Today your balance is $28; we take cash check or charge. We can provide you with a copy of the bill and you can submit it to Magnacare to get them to reimburse you directly. If you want to participate, then you go to their website. They appear to have an IPA in New York, and in New Jersey they have a Organized Delivery System (“ODS”).
