APMA, Members Advocate for Medicare Payment Fix During Legislative Conference
I do appreciate the actions of many but only seeking avoidance of 2.83% cut is insulting to physicians across the board. The WRVU model enacted 1992 at $31. With inflationary adjustments, this should reach $72.
Americans need healthcare, safety, & education as a basic fundamental approach to how we treat each other. Inflation adjusted pay cuts have only affected 5 professions; doctors, teachers, policemen, firefighters, and librarians. This is not a sustainable path for this country regardless of political affiliations, it ignores those basic fundamentals.
During the last 35 years doctors have also been hit with POH ban in 2010 & lack of site neutrality in 2015. This has triggered a massive consolidation of healthcare where in 2008 there were 20% of physicians Hosptial employed, 2023 rose to 80%, 2025 at 87%, & 2029 predicted to be above 99%. This monopolization of healthcare leads to longer patient wait times, loss of autonomy and innovation, and loss of attracting the top talent.
There are plenty of individuals fighting for doctors, but the pressure needs to be expanded to doctors and doctor representatives. AMA & APMA has to band together and prioritize all physicians, they most certainly have not been successful in this plight. No longer can we accept or call it a success to avoid larger cuts. The senate is not interested in changing legislation but the house is willing to play ball.
The time for Senator speak is over with the only successful action in reversing POH, setting site neutrality, & wRVU full adjustment to inflation. Senators need to feel this pressure as at the end of the day they are only human with a cushy lifestyle and it’s time for them to understand the discomfort they induced with preventing natural progress.
All doctors need to be invested in reaching out to their senators as when there is absolute market consolidation, the quality of practicing life will deteriorate for all.
