CA Podiatrist Discusses Plantar Fasciitis
Al Ghamgosar, DPM, a podiatrist who owns the Peninsula Foot & Ankle Center in San Mateo, California, says patients often complain of heel pain after periods of wearing shoes with flat, flexible soles. Flimsy ballet flats, flip-flops, thin sandals, and minimalist running shoes all lack essential arch support.

To stay pain-free, ease into a new exercise regimen and commit to stretching. "Most people who have plantar fasciitis get better," Dr. Ghamgosar says, "and then they get forgetful and go back to their old habits: They stop stretching or they go back to flexible ballet flats. But for those who comply, it's very rare for it to return."
