Victory! AMA Removes Offensive Social Media Post
APMA has announced that AMA voluntarily removed the offensive and inaccurate social media post and the corresponding article on its website attacking podiatric education and training. This decision by AMA is a direct result of APMA's multipronged efforts on its members’ behalf. The AMA post, which appeared on AMA's X and Facebook accounts on June 16, noted that "many patients wrongly believe podiatrists are physicians" and linked to an article riddled with half-truths and inaccuracies about podiatric physicians' education, training, and experience.
APMA's Board of Trustees is communicating directly with AMA leadership and hopes to arrange a meeting with AMA volunteer leadership in the near future to continue the conversation around this issue. APMA will continue to vigorously defend member podiatric physicians' and surgeons' ability to practice to the full extent of their education and training to best serve the public health.
