In-Person Requirement for CE? (Steven Kravitz, DPM)
Dr. Kravitz notes that FL recently reduced its allowance of online CME to 8 per biennium, or just 20% of the 40 credits required. This is not true. The FL Board of Podiatric Medicine website currently states, as they have since 2020, that they are not limiting home study CME through the end of 2022. But aside from the 2020-2022 period during COVID when online was the only choice to earn CME, FL has always limited online to 20%. After all, they have the SAM meeting to support and don’t wish to allow competition with it. The state boards are free, as Dr. Kravitz notes, to set the limitations on online CME at any level that they choose, and though they are not democratic per se, they are responsive to the collective will of podiatrists in their state. Letting your state board know what you want is the ONLY way of getting limitations lifted and we have seen more movement these last 3 years than ever before. We a PRESENT have scrambled to keep our complete list of State CME Laws accurate by updating it frequently by checking the state websites and calling the state board offices when needed. Currently, we note only 8 states that currently limit online CME…but there has been some distinction made between, on-demand pre-recorded lectures vs. live virtual streamed events. We encourage you to check with your state boards and if you find an inaccuracies in our State CME Laws database, please let us know. We will investigate and update if we don’t have the latest regs. We offer all forms of CME, including live in-person and virtual conferences, as well as live webinars and on-demand lectures, and prefer to give our customers the freedom to choose what form(s) they prefer to earn their CME in. We wish the remaining 8 states of GA, IO, KY, MN, MI, NC, TN and TX would allow all types of CME. Believe it or not, CT and MT currently have no state CME requirement!
