APMA Virtual Advocacy Day
APMA Virtual Advocacy Day Last week,, on behalf of New Jersey, I had the opportunity to participate in the APMA Virtual Advocacy Day. I have to begin by thanking Ben Wallner, Director of Legislative Advocacy for APMA. He prepared a PowerPoint with all the speaking points regarding the HELLPP Act, ARC Act, VA Mission Act, and the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, along with information on the Student Loan Reform Bill for the members of APMA to use when speaking to the members of Congress.
In addition to me, Larry Price, DPM and Laurie Clarke, our Legislative Liaison represented New Jersey proudly and we met with our 2 Senators and 4 different Representatives to discuss these issues. They were all appreciative of the information we provided and many of them agreed to cosponsor the bills that would benefit podiatrists. For those of you who participated in their state on behalf of all DPMs across the country, THANK YOU. THIS is a big reason that if you are not a member of APMA, you should be. The members of APMA work on behalf of ALL podiatrists nationwide. Not just the members of APMA. The work that APMA does benefits everyone. If you are a member of APMA and your state component and not involved because “you’re too busy”, I disagree. A meeting with one of your state representatives would take 15 minutes. We all can find 15 minutes in our day to help ourselves. I have been a member of the APMA for 24 years and APMA House of Delegates for at least 7 years and never “went up on the Hill”. That has now changed. If we are back in Washington, D.C. next year, you can be sure that I will be meeting with all of these representatives again to urge them to work on behalf of ALL my colleagues.
