PODIATRISTS AND THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

NY Governor Signs Order Allowing Podiatrists to Administer COVID Vaccine

 

Governor Cuomo signed Executive Order 202.82 on December 13 which modified certain laws related to our profession and will remain in place through January 12, 2021. This action by the Governor will allow podiatrists to administer vaccinations for influenza and COVID-19 at Points of Dispensing that are overseen or approved by the New York State Department of Health or local health departments and supervised by physicians or certified nurse practitioners.

Podiatrists who wish to participate must receive training in: 1.)  Infection control. 2.) Use of personal protective equipment. 3.) Certification in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation. "I am happy to see that the Governor views our profession as a public health asset during the time of the pandemic," says New York State Podiatric Medical Association president James Hanna, DPM.
