State Board Limitations (Elliot Udell, DPM, DPM)
The COVID-19 crisis has unmasked a serious
threat to our business travel world and has
raised the question: “Is there more to life
than bandwidth?” We recently "attended" a Zoom
Bar mitzvah of a son of a family member and the
reception kept blinking on and off. The sound
was poor and we could often not hear the
participants. Some reception was very good, but
you could never predict it.
I know there will be some who say that they use
Zoom all the time and that it is excellent.
Perhaps. But even if it is good, it begs the
question: “Is fellowship and human interaction
doomed to screen presence?”
I have a vested interest. I live in Henderson,
NV and can see the famous Strip from our living
room window. There was a time when it was a
wonderful place to visit and enjoy. I believe
those days will return.
I acknowledge that CME costs money to obtain
and that it is a requirement for your
licensure. ButI believe you (and your staff)
will miss out from the camaraderie and joy of
professional meetings, unless you actually
Human contact has been missing from our lives
for the last 6 months. I believe this will lead
to depression, professional burnout and
sadness. Personally, I found professional
meetings up-lifting and financially profitable
because of what I learned while attending them.
For me, professional meetings were an antidote
for professional burnout.
I hope we can all return to them as a group and
enjoy the presence of marketing staff, new
podiatry toys and the chance to meet with the
professional and academic leaders of our
profession. Please come back. You already spend
too much time looking at this screen.
I would be remiss if I did not remind you that
the State of NV has an excellent, widely
encompassing podiatry law, great entertainment,
beautiful desert, no state income tax and
mountains visible for hundreds of miles.
