RESPONSES/COMMENTS (PODIATRISTS IN THE COMMUNITY)
From: Steven J Berlin, DPM, Diane Lebedeff, DPM
I want to congratulate Dr. Diane Lebedeff for her passion and generosity to her community. More podiatrists need to follow elsewhere in her footsteps.
Steven J Berlin, DPM, Reisterstown, MD
Just as a correction, I live and practice in Maryland! (prior to marrying Steve Gersh, I grew up and practiced in the Detroit-Metro area). Steve and I live in Severna Park! The community center is near and dear to my heart. I have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the center over the past (almost 30) years. It is such a wonderful place to live, and a great community to belong to!
I am now going to build handicap accessible changing rooms for the therapy pool (The regular changing rooms have children and adults running around and we need places for wheelchair and walkers and attendants) to help our handicap crowd get changed for physical therapy or water therapy classes.
Diane Lebedeff, DPM, Arnold, MD

SPCC to Honor MD Podiatrist Philanthropist
Diane Lebedeff, DPM was brought up to give back to her community, always taught that “you give 100% or you don’t give at all.” Over the last quarter-century, she has given her best to the Severna Park Community Center (SPCC), whether that be time, treasure, or talent in various seasons. SPCC Executive Director Sarah Elder explained that in selecting gala honorees, the center looks for people who are not only active with the SPCC but also active in the community in other ways.
|
Dr. Diane Lebedeff |
Elder cited an example of when the SPCC needed a new boiler, and Lebedeff raised $60,000 “overnight” to replace it. Lebedeff has spearheaded fundraising initiatives, served on the SPCC’s board of directors for more than 20 years, led many improvement projects around the facility and grounds, and more – all done quietly, out of a simple passion for helping others. "The Eaton Fire has left an indelible mark on Altadena, California—a historically Black enclave known for its resilience, generational wealth, and strong middle-class presence. However, the losses extend beyond homes and buildings. The term “solastalgia”—grief over environmental destruction—captures the deep emotional and cultural pain felt by residents. Families are mourning not just the structures that housed their memories but also the land, the community spaces, and the sense of security that Altadena once provided," says Dr. Glover.

Always On Call Can Lead to Health Issues: NJ Podiatrist
When doctors are always “on,” they don’t give their nervous systems a chance to toggle between “fight or flight” (sympathetic) and “rest and digest” (parasympathetic). In the short term, high levels of cortisol and adrenaline can impair mood, memory, decision-making, and even increase the risk for medical errors. In the long term? Burnout and damage to the cardiovascular, immune, and nervous systems.
