Podiatrist Ranked #23 Highest Paying Job
In the aforementioned article, podiatrists are cited as "not trained at (allopathic) medical school, but rather complete four-year training at podiatric medical school." Although we are specialty trained at colleges of podiatric medicine, we are, in fact, trained as "allopaths". We DO practice allopathic medicine. Why our income is less is probably a reflection of our full scope of practice on a limited portion of the human body, among other factors. So, I never believed we were anything other than allopathic doctors. see below: from Merriam-Webster Medical Dictionary Allopathy: a system of medical practice that aims to combat disease by use of remedies (as drugs or surgery) producing effects different from or incompatible with those produced by the disease being treated—compare homeopathy. from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Allopathic medicine is an expression commonly used by homeopaths and proponents of other forms of alternative medicine to refer to mainstream medical use of pharmacologically active agents or physical interventions to treat or suppress symptoms or pathophysiologic processes of diseases or conditions. from National Cancer Institute Dictionary of Cancer Terms Definition of allopathic medicine. ... A system in which medical doctors and other healthcare professionals (such as nurses, pharmacists, and therapists) treat symptoms and diseases using drugs, radiation, or surgery. Also called biomedicine, conventional medicine, mainstream medicine, orthodox medicine, and Western medicine. (I did notice that we Doctors of Podiatric Medicine are not mentioned here, but nurses, pharmacists and therapists are listed.) Neil H Hecht, DPM, Tarzana, CA
