Podiatrist Ranked #23 Highest Paying Job
Mic crunched the most recent numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and found the 30 highest-paying positions in the United States: More than half are in medicine.
Highest-paying job #23: Podiatrist
Average annual pay: $136,180
Projected growth (2014-2024): 14%
One reason podiatrists are the lowest-paid medical professionals among the top 30 earners is because they are not trained at (allopathic) medical school, but rather complete four-year graduate training at podiatric medical school. Podiatrists provide medical care for people with foot, ankle, and lower leg problems. They diagnose illnesses, treat injuries, and perform surgery involving the lower extremities. Industry growth is expected because of an increasingly active and longer-living population, coupled with chronic conditions like diabetes and obesity.
