PODIATRISTS AND SPORTS

PA Podiatrist to be Inducted into Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame

Marathoner Dr. Ira Meyers of Warrington doesn't have far to run if his feet need tending to after a hard day at the races. After all, the much-honored track and field star is also a podiatrist. Now the Bucks County resident is being recognized for his championship efforts: Dr. Ira Meyers is part of the select class of accomplished athletes being honored by and inducted into the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame/Adolph and Rose Levis Museum on May 26. Ceremonies are set for the Gershman Y in Center City Philly.

Dr. Ira Meyers - Winning the Philadelphia Marathon

At 56, native New Yorker Meyers has a lot of miles on him; he has been competing in cross country and marathons since helming his state championship team in high school, back in 1974, then adding to his many medals and honors while attending the College of William and Mary, where the All-East athlete set the college's record in the 10,000 meters. He also was part of the half-marathon gold medal-winning team in the Maccabiah Games as a college junior. He moved to the Philadelphia area in the ’80s where he graduated from the then Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine and won the Philadelphia Marathon.
