NJ Podiatrist Lives His Motto "Do Great Things"


 


Four years ago, Dr. Robert Conenello was enjoying life with his wife, Gail, their three kids, and a thriving practice as one of the top podiatrists in the area. A Ridgewood resident, he attends his kids’ sports games, is engaged in the community, and looks forward to running the Memorial Day Ridgewood Run. Life was good. But in 2012, he started to experience a sharp pain behind his ear like "someone sticking a knife in my ear and twisting it," he explains. He was diagnosed with glossopharyngeal neuralgia, a syndrome that consists of episodic ear and throat pain in the ninth cranial nerve. In May of 2012, he underwent a four-hour surgery followed by four months of recovery.

"I felt better after the surgery but not 100 percent," Conenello states. Over the next two years, the symptoms returned. "I was devastated," he recalls. "I just wanted a normal life and all the pain came back."
