RE: Outrageous Foot Injury of the Day

"Don't do it." That's the message Mikaela Morris of Trimont, MN has for anyone interested in purchasing rechargeable heated apparel products to keep warm this winter.

Burn from wearing heated insoles.

In a Facebook post, she shared photos of her husband Tyler's charred foot and melted-off skin after his rechargeable insoles, which were not turned on at the time, exploded inside his boots.

RE: Outrageous Post-op Boot of the Day

This patient is 8 days post-op right foot bunionectomy with 1st metatarsal osteotomy with internal screw fixation. Here is what she said to me Friday, on her first post-op visit: "All I want for Christmas is this boot off."

Holiday Post-op Boot

The lights blink and are battery operated. She said she got lots of thumbs up for the holiday-decorated boot.

RE: Outrageous Shoes of the Day

"We focused on consumerism and waste as its bi-product, and began trawling the UK shorelines (including the tidal Thames) to find plastic rubbish.

These shoes are real garbage!

We then reconstituted the rubbish to manufacture a consumer product from the product of our consumption."

"Slip-ons"?

I’m not sure what I’d called them, but they’re definitely a-peel-ing!

This design consists of a single piece that wraps around the wearer’s foot, forming support for the heel and ball. The foot naturally forms a bridge between the two.

Talk about a minimalist shoe?

The product is made of carbon fiber, laminated with rubber on the side that touches the floor and leather on the side next to the skin.

It’s a typical afternoon in a rural African village: mosquitoes hum around the water as women pump it into plastic containers, children trailing behind them. What sets this scene apart is what the men have on their feet. At first glance, their footwear is nothing of note – simple leather sandals with a woven strap attached to the top.

Anti-malaria sandals

But this strap is something special – a product of the Ifakara Health Institute. It’s made of locally produced hessian and has been treated with transfluthrin, a low-cost insecticide highly effective at repelling mosquitoes.
