EmblemHealth's HIP To Drop Solo Practitioners

 

EmblemHealth will no longer contract with independent providers, opting instead to work with larger groups such as independent practice associations as it pursues a shift toward value-based payments. Members of EmblemHealth's HIP plans received a letter Oct. 29 stating that independent providers would no longer be covered. The insurer pointed to the move as a sign it is at the forefront of the shift to value-based payments.

 

That stance has been supported by state regulators with the Department of Financial Services (DFS) who see payment reform as a way to improve quality and lower health costs.
