Running Too Much Can Have Long-Term Negative Effects: TX Podiatrist

The runner's high is a physical achievement desired by many runners who take on the pavement, but could that quest come at a price? “A lot of people that I know, who are avid runners say they would never give it up, no matter what I told them,” said UT Health podiatrist and former runner Dr. David Andreone.

Andreone says that while running is a preferred workout by many, the bones inside your body have to last you a lifetime. “I get a lot people that are like, ‘I haven't run in 15 years, but I am going to get out and I am going to go run tonight! I am going to go two miles!' Sure enough, they come to me and they're like, ‘I don't know what I did to my feet but the pain is killing me.’” Andreone says running is a direct impact exercise, which can cause long-term negative effects on the body over an extended period of time.
