Query: Meaningful Use Measures 7 and 17

I am trying to get ready for stage 2 of meaningful use and have a question about measure 7: patient electronic access. The description says, "More than 5 percent of all unique patients seen by the EP during the EHR reporting period (or their authorized representatives) view, download, or  transmit to a third party their health information." All of my patients are given instructions on how to view the EMR, but very few actually do it.

Would it be acceptable if I had patients sign a form allowing me (or my secretary)  to be the authorized representative, and then just go in to the patient portal and be counted for this measure? It is the same with measure 17, secure electronic messaging? Could I be the authorized representative?

Query: AI Scribes/EMRs

I am curious to know if any DPMs are using AI scribes/EMRs, and if so, which ones? What has been your experience using them? What are the costs involved?

Query: Source to Affordably Send eRXs

I am a podiatrist in Louisville, Kentucky. We are required to electronically prescribe for controlled substances. I do not write prescriptions for controlled substances that often and my EMR will charge a large fee for that service. My office has already filed a temporary exemption for this prescribing mandate but my exemption is about to expire. Do any PM News readers know of any affordable services which allow me to electronically prescribe controlled substances?

Query: EMR/EHR Recommendations

I recently started using a very competent remote scribe and I am very thankful and grateful after making this decision. I feel like I can continue working solo, see more patients, and not bother hiring another doc - or get sidetracked with “burnout”! I am wondering what other pods are doing regarding current EMR.

Query: Recommendations for New EMR

I am wondering what EMR other practitioners are utilizing. I am unhappy with my current system and how they are kicking the old users to the curb unless we move to their new system. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone use Athena or Aprima for EMR and what are your reviews? I have searched the past database and did not see these two products reviewed or discussed.

Query: Modernizing Medicine EMR

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I find the EMR options out there to be marginal at best for podiatry practices, especially on the clinical side. I planned to use one company and got burned. I am talking to another company, Modernizing Medicine now and, of course, they look good! I am looking for some feedback and hope from podiatrists familiar with this company.

Query: Alternative to Wisdom EMR?

I use WISDOM software from Cerner for my office management system. WISDOM will end at the end of 2022. Cerner is offering a new program, but I am wondering if anyone else is in this situation and if they have found a better alternative to what Cerner is offering. Any input will be appreciated.

Query: EMR Vendors and Reviews

Our current EMR company was bought out and they will be changing their entire format in the next year or two. As the new price point for this software will be prohibitive for our practice that has multiple doctors, we are now shopping for a new company for this service. Is there a site that both lists and reviews current podiatry/EMR vendors?

Queries: Free EMR Programs

Does anyone have experience with the "free" EMR programs like FreedomMD? The EMR software is free but one has to use their electronic claims service. There are no yearly fees. It sounds too good to be true.

Query: EMR to Replace Cerner's Wisdom Software

Podiatrists using Cerner's Wisdom practice management software have been notified that they will be sunsetting this software soon. Converting to Cerner's specialty EMR is a convenient option, but I'm not sure it's my best one. My questions to my colleagues is which EMR did you buy that you are very happy with and why? And maybe more importantly, are there any particular EMRs that I should stay away from? Any EMRs that you regret purchasing?

Being in practice a long time, I have many years worth of paper charts. Has anyone come up with a good system to go paperless and scan the information in the old charts? We have an EMR since 2005, but I need the information prior to that year.

Query: Electronic Rx for Controlled Substances

We are implementing narcotic scripts electronically as mandated. Our EHR vendor is telling us to use Exostar. It requires a key fob device. It all seems okay; however, it seems very pricey. This is of course in addition to paying for DEA numbers, and the cost of our EHR itself. What are others doing? And how much is reasonable for the ability to prescribe narcotics electronically?

Query: Changing EMRs

We have been with Cerner EMR since 1993 when it was "soft easy". I'm starting to notice little things like decreased quality of support and updates. We have our data on their cloud and I'm afraid I'm going to turn my computer on someday and it won't be there. I'm looking for a new EMR and I was wondering if anybody had ever switched from Cerner to another EMR. What EMR would people suggest and if you did switch, how easy was it to transfer your data and schedule?

Query: Windows 10 and E-prescribing

I just upgraded to a new workstation with a Windows 10 operating system. Although my EMR is functional on the Windows 10 OS, the e-prescribing function does not work. When I called my vendor for support, they informed me that because CMS does not recognize Windows 10 to be a compliant OS for quality measures, the vendor cannot make the software changes to make the e-prescribe work with windows 10. Is this accurate? Is anyone using Windows 10 and e-prescribing? If yes, what EMR are you using?

Query: EMR and New Patient Input

My office still has the patients filling out new patient paperwork, and then my medical assistants enter the information for EVERY new patient. Obviously this is a substantial burden on them and is a lot of time they could be using to do other front and back office tasks. Our EMR provider, Medisoft, has an electronic version of new patient paperwork where the patient can enter their own information on a tablet and the staff double checks it.

My staff isn't convinced it's the way to go, mostly because we have so many geriatric patients who may not be 'computer savvy'. I would like to know what success or failures other providers have had with this, and what mistakes to avoid.
