Query Laws and Rules for Florida License
It is a very unfortunate position that the Florida Podiatric Medical Association (FPMA) has decided to take. They failed to step up to the plate, go to bat and cover Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine’s shortfall for fellow podiatrists who were left in the dark. What do they do? Barry University had failed to notify FL licensees prior to terminating its (decades-long) state-required CME home study courses.
The FPMA didn’t budge. They arbitrarily chose a date 30 days in advance (for taking the required Laws and Rules home study CME) of the biennial renewal without notifying all FL licensees.
The FPMA told me that they can’t possibly process all the license renewals after March 1, 2014. That begs the question: if there are so many podiatrists in this situation, isn’t there an obvious problem? Or conversely, if there are only a few podiatrists in this situation, why not just help them out and let them take the 1-hour home study course? Keep in mind that when I contacted them, there were still 3 and half weeks to the end of the biennium It would take all of 45 seconds to grade my 10 answers.
Maybe an employee can put in a little overtime in order to complete the applications? How about hiring a part-time employee to help out in order to get the state licenses renewed on time? Yet every time I call the FPMA, Mr. Higgins the “supervisor” is out to lunch. Mr. Higgins has plenty of time for lunch every day, but yet not 45 seconds it would take to grade my 10 answer Laws and Rules answer sheet so I can renew my professional license. It disturbs me to think how this is being horribly and irresponsibly handled with absolutely no effort to help a fellow podiatrist. How ironic that this is the state PODIATRIC society that we are talking about. If the FPMA won’t render help to their own kind, who will? I am very disappointed in the FPMA.
Despite repeated requests at the FPMA office for taking the test for the single 1-hour required CME Laws and Rules, the answer sheet which consists of 10 answers they simply do not want to make any effort to help. What an unfortunate situation completely disregarded by the Florida Podiatric Medical Association.
This was the Florida Podiatric Medical Association’s chance to shine. Instead, they closed the doors to their own podiatrists who were in need of their help to simply fulfill state license renewal requirement which they have readily available.
