Obamacare and ICD-10 Force TX Podiatrist to Close Practice and Retire Early

 

A Marble Falls podiatrist who recently retired says Obamacare-related requirements for healthcare professionals prompted him to close his doors late last year. "[The reform] is a massive change and it’s affecting all of medicine. I’m a small office and meeting the new requirements would have overwhelmed me,” said Dr. Perry Peterson, who retired in December 2013.

 

"That entered into [my decision] and there are other changes that under the Affordable Care Act that will go into effect. It didn’t make sense since I was nearing retirement. One of the changes scheduled to take place Oct. 1 has been in the works for years, and will require healthcare professionals across specialties to log more details about the care and treatment they administer to patients. "With new sections of data to fill in, it’s the accumulation,” Peterson said. "Even though they are done quickly, they just keep adding up.”
