NY Clinical Conference Features Pre-Residency Workshops for Students
The NY Conference provided a forum for stepping forward and upward at a critical time in our professional evolution. I sensed that the attendees were eager to take advantage of it. My colleagues were better dressed and imaged. They had smiles on their faces and zip in their step. I saw DPMs taking control of their destiny instead of whining about things they cannot control. I witnessed them opening up their wallets and investing in their futures more than usual.
Even more importantly, I saw a trend to invest in the best, most certified and most professional products and services, not the cheapest. We are finally realizing that saving $2,000 a year in purchase costs for products that cheapen our image or can be purchased is a bad business decision. I also saw them looking for and signing contracts with mentors and practice evaluation experts as we finally realize that a “free” consultation is overpriced. Patients expect their doctors to represent elite, proven, professional products and services. They know bait and switch foot care when they see it. Maintaining their trust and referral potential is more important than how much we pay a vendor for an OTC AFO. Our societies, schools, media organizations, vendors and other allies and partners have hung in there with us through these tough years but, at The NYSPMA Conference, I sensed that the seeds of a better and more satisfactory professional life are starting to harvest here in New York . Here’s to a great 2014 for us all. Dennis Shavelson, DPM, NY, NY, drsha@foothelpers.com
