Are We Mandated to Accept Obamacare Patients? (Richard Rettig, DPM
I have to agree with Dr. Rettig. There is no Obama care insurance. I certainly do not expect to have a patient walk in with a plastic card with Obama's grinning face on it demanding care. Actually, I have just received notice from Anthem that says pursuant to my contract, I am now enrolled as a provider in Anthem X - X for exchange. The so-called Obama care. I imagine I will get something similar from Cigna, United and so on, soon enough. The Anthem letter warned me to be observant as some of their new programs will be classic HMO programs. No where did they say what fee schedule they will use so that remains to be seen. The important fact missing from my letter is what to do if I did not want to participate. That information was lacking for a reason and that is I will take Anthem and Anthem X or I will not take Anthem. That was the implied offer. This is probably a good thing as there are many from what I have seen who would refuse Exchange Insurance on some kind of principle. As for questioning the law being constitutional....well...in my limited constitutional experience...if the law is passed it is constitutional until proven otherwise by challenge in the court system. And this law has been passed. No matter what you think about it, it is the law of the land. Here is my only "rant" so to speak about all those who want out of Obama care etc. It is the law. You don't have to like it. The opposing side had two years to study the law, find problems, and offer to negotiate to limit the problems. Instead the entire fight was about destroying and getting rid of the ACA. Who is going to probably suffer while this law is tweaked? Well, all us docs of course. Ultimately however, I happen to think this law will help all of us as Americans. David Gurvis, DPM, Avon IN, deg1@comcast.net
