WI Podiatrist Survives on Patients' Ignorance

Milwaukee podiatrist Dr. John Lanham — who has triggered more complaints to state regulators in the past five years than any other foot doctor in Wisconsin — is continuing to treat patients and continuing to frustrate them. Clients say he lets them think their visits will be covered by their insurance, then sticks them with larger bills.

The twist: Lanham admits it. "How can I stay in business if I have to disclose to patients that I'm not in their network?" Lanham told the Journal Sentinel, adding that if patients knew how much he was going to charge them, they'd leave. "I unfortunately have to survive on patients' ignorance."
