Scholl Dean Praises School's Co-Founder
From boyhood until his death at age 85, Scholl (1882-1968) was committed to curing corns, bunions and falling arches. That passion for feet paid off handsomely because he was not only zealous, but also a brilliant innovator, salesman, and marketer. The result was his co-founding, in 1912, of the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago.

"Dr. Scholl was a pioneer of indisputable drive, character, and foresight who recognized the importance of foot and ankle health, in an era when it was an oft-neglected discipline," Dr. Nancy Parsley, dean of Scholl College, told IBD. "In sum, he identified a need, created a need, then satisfied a need. Isn't that what a brilliant businessman does?"
