Fluoroquinolone Toxicity (David Secord, DPM)
Dr. Secord wants "proof" that what I am asserting is supported by the literature. In fact, there is no paucity of literature regarding flouroquinolone toxicity syndrome. If you have not heard of fluoroquinolone toxicity syndrome, I suggest you do your own literature search as soon as possible. The question that always needs to be answered is why do these severe reactions only affect the people that they do. That is where the genetic research is applicable and is beginning to answer many questions.
In terms of the SNP's and their relationship to this toxicity syndrome, this is all emerging science and my report of these conditions may be preceding the literature that is sure to support these assertions in the near future. I have been working closely with some physicians whose work in the area of personalized medicine has given me a framework to help patients of mine who have been languishing in pain for years. I have experience with this and have seen it change lives first hand. I reported it on this forum for information purposes and to give a "heads up" to our profession since many of you write for a lot of these antibiotics.
Dr. Secord's remark about cited literature is relevant and I take no issue with it. However, realize that I am working in a paradigm as and with pioneers who are changing the face of medicine. Those who wish to follow the flow are welcome. Those who wait to be convinced are often too late to save someone from a preventable medical disaster.
