RE: Compounding Pharmacies (Marc Katz, DPM)
From: Larry Kosova, DPM
We have used a company called Total Pain Solutions for about 3 years. I have not had the same experience that Dr. Katz has had. It has been nothing but mostly good results. My practice is mainly sports/performance injuries, and the compounds let these patients compete or perform when all else had failed. If something is not working, we can also talk to the pharmacists, and they will assist in making a new formulation and send it to the patient, gratis. I have actually used the products myself and see huge benefits. The regional rep's name is David Jones at 1-877-608-4995. I think you will see a difference just by talking with him.
Just like anything else, there are good companies trying to have the best products possible, and there are those trying to rip off us and insurance companies.
Disclosure: I have no affiliation with this company.

RE: APMA Pinterest Page (Crystal Holmes, DPM)
From: Robert Scott Steinberg, DPM
Honestly, I do not believe Dr. Holmes understands social media any more than the "kids" in the APMA's PR department. Why is it okay with you that the APMA Pinterest site contains random unscientific material? You are mistaken if you think the majority of users understand the difference between what a DPM posts, and what the general public posts.
Why is it that you, or anyone on your committee ever posts on the APMA LinkedIn page? Why is it that the page is used for companies who do not support the APMA to "sell"? Why is it the page has more post from non-DPMs than DPMs?
I know the process. The APMA staff writes the stuff, and then the committee is supposed to review it. I only have to point to last Spring's Foot Prints, stating we make custom insoles (no mention of prescription orthotics), as to the failure of the committee to review and guarantee that we sound like we know what we are - the experts, when it comes to the foot and ankle

RE: Podiatry-Specific Coding (Paul Galluzzo, DPM)

You might want to check out a coding manual by Martin Taubman, DPM. You can reach him at (619) 298-1733.

No worries. If you are a member of the APMA, then you can have access to APMA's Coding Resource Center, which you are really going to need if ICD-10 is actually shoved down our throats!
