With my understanding that there are some days that have greater amounts of newsworthy stories than others, I would appreciate PM News not printing those articles in “Podiatrists in the News”, where there is discussion of overly simplistic foot treatments. I believe it is a disservice to the quality of PM News, where there are articles relating quotes such as recommending carefully washing and drying between the toes, wearing properly fitting shoes, and cutting one’s toenails straight across. Given the evolution of podiatry and the many other articles related to a higher caliber of education and thinking, I would personally feel embarrassed for other medical colleagues to read those parts of PM News.

Editor's Comment: It is surprising that Dr. Kaye would complain about this type of promotional story when he has been the subject of recent similar stories in PM News. "CA Podiatrist Discusses Breaking in Shoes" and "High Heels Create Potential Health Issues for Young Girls: CA Podiatrist."
We think that Dr. Kaye is missing the point. The motivation for publishing these stories is NOT to educate podiatrists about feet, but to inspire podiatrists to appear in local newspapers or on TV, and thus create interest for the profession within those podiatrists' communities. Podiatrists featured in media stories will gain many new patients as a result of this exposure, and other podiatrists will also benefit from this publicity. If Dr. Kaye wishes podiatric education, he can find many clinical articles in Podiatry Management magazine.
