Wearing Extra Socks Can be Problematic: KY Podiatrist
You pile on that extra pair of Elites to be extra-cool and it makes your shoes too tight. “Wearing two pairs of athletic socks could conceivably change the way your shoe fits,” says Dr. Sarah M. Voelkel, an associate at Louisville Podiatry. “You can cause blisters or calluses. … And, if you’re talking about wearing them to play team sports, you could be more at risk of an injury like an ankle sprain, fracture, or those turf toe types of injuries,” Voelkel said.

She also cautions that doubling up on socks can increase your risk of athlete’s foot. Synthetic socks are designed to wick moisture away from skin, but by doubling up, you’re reducing their effectiveness. And if you double up on cotton socks, you’re trapping in moisture. Either way, you may be sacrificing your soles for the sake of style.
