Policy for Handguns in a Podiatric Office (Frank Lattarulo, DPM)

I have a license to carry a concealed weapon,
and I try to always have my pistol or some sort
of weapon on me. I work with my pistol in my
pocket. Most of my patients have guns and many
of them carry. I live in rural North Georgia.
When I was in high school, during hunting
season, every pickup truck in the parking lot
had a rifle or shotgun hanging on a gun rack in
the back window of the truck.

I carried my Boy Scout knife with me to school
and sometimes we would play mumbly peg throwing
our knives into the ground and having to stretch
to the knife-we did this at school, usually
during lunch hour. Nobody in my school, during
my term there, was ever stabbed or shot. And I
am talking about 1968-1971, some very awkward
years of segregation and busing.

I love the urban story regarding the gentleman
that went into a fast food restaurant in Texas
and threw a shot gun on the counter and
said, "put all the money in a bag and give to me
or I will kill everyone here." Just about the
time he said the word "here", he was shot by
three different customers eating at the tables
in the restaurant. He was reportedly dead before
he hit ground.

I am very sorry for what happened at the
Connecticut school, but it makes me wonder. If
the principal or maybe a teacher, had been
carrying a gun, the ending could possibly have
been changed and some lives saved. No our
political leaders are going to use this horrible
incident to help make it harder for good honest
folks to own guns or protect themselves.
Remember a bully rarely attacks someone who may
beat him.

Also, why are gun stores, that make some major
money, rarely robbed? It is because the robbers
are cowards and like cowards, will refrain from
attacking anyone that may attack back. I feel
every adult should be carrying a gun and be
responsible for their own protection and actions-
unless they are found to have some sort of
significant mental issues. Heck, more than once,
a patient has brought a gun in to office to show
me, while I am seeing them. In my neighborhood,
you are not dressed if you are not carrying.
