Lee Poston, DPM has brought his podiatry practice to the local community and Covington County through his practice Advanced Foot and Ankle in Andalusia. Dr. Poston obtained his doctorate in Podiatric Medicine at Kent State University’s College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.

FL Podiatrist Launches Walk with a Doc Program
DeLand Foot and Leg Center is encouraging Volusia and Lake County residents to take a step toward better health with Walk with a Doc, a health program that brings doctors and patients together to walk every 3rd Monday in historic Downtown DeLand, FL. Walk with a Doc is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire communities through movement and conversation.

IN Podiatrist Named 2024 Good Neighbor for Valparaiso
The City of Valparaiso has named Paul Sommer, DPM as its Good Neighbor recipient for 2024, recognizing his exemplary commitment to the community. “Paul Sommer sees a need and works to fill it, benefiting so many, including the local running community, families of kids with disabilities and those with ALS, among others. He leverages his love for endurance sports to raise funds for causes he cares about, and we’re so pleased to highlight his good work,” said Mayor Jon Costas.

Dr. Sommer is a Valparaiso podiatrist who has lived in Valparaiso for more than 50 years. He has translated his talent for endurance sports into ways to raise funds for philanthropic causes. In 2011, he carried Kyle Polhemus through the Valpo triathlon to raise money for those with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. Later, he completed a long distance open water swim to raise funds for Kyle’s needs and to help begin the Kyle’s Legacy Foundation in Kyle’s name.

GA Podiatrist Partners With Workforce Program to Offer Internships
In a meaningful collaboration with the Job Training Division (JTD) of Georgia, the Ankle & Foot Centers of America's Columbus office is now offering an internship program aimed at providing hands-on experience in podiatric healthcare for local youth. Led by Jennifer Monaco, DPM, a board-certified podiatrist at the Ankle & Foot Centers of America, the program seeks to inspire young adults considering careers in healthcare, particularly in specialized fields like foot and ankle health.

MA Podiatrists Participate in Foot Health Screening
David Alper, DPM, a member of the APMA Board of Trustees, and three residents from the Beth Israel/Deaconess Hospital residency program manned the “Foot Health Screening” as part of the State of Diabetes event, held in Boston by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) on November 22nd.

The ADA is holding State of Diabetes events in many cities throughout the country in November, as part of National Diabetes Month. The events feature foot, eye, blood sugar, and other screenings, as well as representatives from both medical organizations, public health associations, and medical and food vendors. These events are free to attend, with the purpose of helping to educate those with diabetes and their caretakers about all that is available to assist in their care.

After nearly five decades of dedicated service, Bayonne native Schail C. Frank, DPM, is retiring, marking the end of an era in local healthcare. Born and raised in Bayonne, Dr. Frank has spent his life living and working in the community he has always called home. Throughout his career, he became a fixture in the Bayonne community, providing expert foot care with a personal touch. TX Podiatrist Recognized for $60K Donation to Diabetes Center
The El Paso Center for Diabetes (EPCD) recognized Efren “Buff” De La Rosa, DPM’s $60,000 donation by naming one of the three new consultation rooms in his honor. A small ceremony was held on Nov. 15 at the EPCD’s new building site to recognize De La Rosa for his donation which includes $50,000 to name one consultation room and $10,000 for personalized bricks that will line the entrance of the building called the “Pathway of Hope,” according to the news release by the center.

Dr. De La Rosa is a board-certified podiatrist, the founder of The Foot Institute, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the EPCD, the center said. “In my podiatry practice, I treat many patients with diabetes, and caring for them and treating their foot concerns has become a cornerstone of my practice. The services the Center provides to the community are truly essential, and I am proud to be able to contribute to their future success in such a meaningful way,” De La Rosa said. EPCD broke ground on its newest location in May, which features a spacious classroom, a teaching kitchen, a private intake room, and a healing garden.

Irish Podiatrist Raises Money in Marathon Fundraiser
A Donegal woman ran the Dublin Marathon in memory of her friend’s late uncle, a kidney patient, and raised funds for the Irish Kidney Association. Lucia Byrne from Glenties, a podiatrist in Donegal Town, ran the 26.2 miles in the capital along with Carol Hegarty from Ballina, Co Mayo.

The pair stepped out for the Irish Kidney Association in memory of Carol's late uncle Ollie Hegarty, who was a kidney patient who passed away in 2022. So far, they have raised close to €2,000 in donations to the Irish Kidney Foundation.

Continuing its two decades-plus of support for the cause, Ankle & Foot Centers of America participated in the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, offering on-site podiatric support for walkers during the September 28-29 event.

Since 2002, Ankle & Foot Centers of America has sponsored the breast cancer event as part of its dedication to support local communities and important health causes. Joseph D. Giovinco, DPM, Mindy J. Trotter, DPM, and Osayamen Edigin, DPM, provided medical care at each of the eight stops so the 600 walkers could see a foot doctor or foot surgeon for treatment of foot and ankle problems such as blisters, sprains and soreness, or just to help walkers deal with the unavoidable issue of sweaty feet.

NY Podiatrist Honored by NYPD’s Shomrim Society
Raphael Lilker, DPM was recently awarded the Maimonides Award from the New York City Police Department’s (NYPD) fraternal society of Jewish police officers, the Shomrim Society. This award was named for Moses Ben Maimon, the 12th Century physician, Jewish scholar, and philosopher whose contributions to health and wellness are still felt today. This award is given to those who have significantly improved people’s well-being and health and are evaluated based on their impact in the NYPD and society. Dr. Lilker is an honorary police surgeon who has continuously provided the highest quality of care to NYPD Officers, NY State Troopers, as well as local fire and EMS personnel.
