PODIATRISTS AND FOOTWEAR
NY Podiatrist Discusses Baby and Toddler Shoes

Shoes can be a fun way to express personal style and taste, but they can also be difficult to put on and take off. For younger kids, skip the decorative laces and straps. “There’s no need to struggle with finicky elements that simply get in the way and constrict their ability to move,” Diana Valencia, DPM says. “Openings should be wide and adjustable to ensure the best possible fit.”

Dr. Diana Valencia

According to Dr. Valencia, the footbed should be made of memory foam. “The lightweight material gently cushions the foot to encourage frequent, natural movements without throwing off your child’s coordination,” she says. When looking at a shoe listing, check for the APMA seal, which signals approval from the American Podiatric Medical Association. “It’s not pay for play,” Dr. Valencia says. “It means the podiatrists in the APMA recommend that shoe. It does mean something. Pick ones with the seal.”

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY
Strategic Options for Physicians Facing Challenges in Private Medical Practice

Here are some strategic options for physician practices to consider in this evolving, competitive market:

1. Transact with a reputable private equity (PE) backed practice management platform with a track record of success in your specialty. There are multiple PE-back platforms in every specialty, including many in primary care. There are various pros and cons to PE partnerships, and not every PE platform has been successful. Some physicians are averse to partnering with a private equity platform due to their profit-driven focus, perceived interference with the practice of medicine, and their goal of “exiting” the platform in three to seven years.

Based on general industry experience, however, approximately 80-90% of PE-physician partnerships are successful. The likelihood of a successful partnership often depends on whether the physicians engaged in thorough due diligence of potential PE partners, including checking references and ensuring a cultural fit, prior to making a very careful and thoughtful decision on which (if any) PE platform to choose.

FINANCIAL TIP OF THE DAY
Year-End Tax Planning Can Protect You From a Big Tax Bill

On individual tax planning, look at the overall impact on 2025 and 2026. The goal is to reduce your federal tax liability over both years, not just one.

1. Home interest: If you pay your January 2026 mortgage bill before year-end, you can deduct the mortgage interest portion on Schedule A of your 2025 federal tax return.

2. State and local taxes (SALT): Now that the SALT deduction cap on Schedule A is $40,000, up from $10,000 in prior years, more taxpayers are expected to itemize on Schedule A. If under the $40,000 cap and your locale allows it, pay the property tax bill due in January 2026 in December of this year so you can deduct it.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL)
RE: Warren Buffett's Words of Wisdom
From: Howard Zlotoff, DPM

Warren Buffett, the 95-year-old CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, released a Thanksgiving letter this week, as Greg Abel is set to take over the reins at the company. Why it matters: "Buffett has earned a reputation not only as a legendary investor, but as someone with the secrets to living a better life," CNBC's Ryan Ermey writes.

The final paragraphs of the letter contain several nuggets of wisdom, gleaned from 9+ decades of life experience, including these:
  • "I'm happy to say I feel better about the second half of my life than the first. My advice: Don't beat yourself up over past mistakes — learn at least a little from them and move on. It is never too late to improve."
  • "Get the right heroes and copy them."
  • "Remember Alfred Nobel, later of Nobel Prize fame, who reportedly read his own obituary that was mistakenly printed when his brother died and a newspaper got mixed up. He was horrified at what he read and realized he should change his behavior. Don't count on a newsroom mix-up: Decide what you would like your obituary to say and live the life to deserve it."
  • "Kindness is costless but also priceless ... Greatness does not come about through accumulating great amounts of money, great amounts of publicity or great power in government. When you help someone in any of thousands of ways, you help the world."
