CA Podiatrist Discusses Socks That Keep Feet Dry
When looking for the best socks for sweaty feet, it’s most important to prioritize fabric, says Richard H. Graves, DPM, a podiatrist at Sol Foot and Ankle Centers in California. Moisture-wicking materials like polyester blends and wool might be more expensive, but your dry feet will thank you for the splurge.
|
Dr. Richard Graves |
Dr. Graves says one of the best materials for sweaty feet is wool. "Not only is it temperature regulating, but wool has naturally breathable fibers that are made to keep your feet dry. “These materials are the best at wicking moisture away from the feet. They cost a bit more, but are well worth the expense.”

Ceramic Latticework Defines a Podiatry Clinic in Spain
Interior design studio Vitale was tasked with creating a new clinic for podiatrist Sergio Miralles that breaks the mold of traditional medical facilities. Vertical light fixtures illuminate the lattice structures, creating an enveloping, modern feel.

Ceramic Latticework Defines a Podiatry Clinic in Spain |
Taking cues from Mediterranean coastal landscapes, the 4,000-square-foot clinic in Castellón, Spain features a reception and waiting area, six consultation and treatment rooms, and a comprehensive medical-surgical area with two large operating rooms. The design concept aims to evoke a sense of wellbeing, optimism, and a connection to an environment that mirrors the sensations of an outdoor space.

Podiatrist: #6 in List of Six-Figure Jobs That Employers Can’t Fill
Today’s job market is a competitive one, and people are starving for work. Despite the positive headlines and the promises of decreased unemployment, men and women all over the country are struggling to make a living — and are looking for six-figure jobs to provide for themselves and their families. While a six-figure paycheck doesn’t stretch as far as it once did, it will still make a world of difference for anyone and everyone.
#6. Podiatrist - Average Base Salary: $250,117
According to the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine, enrollment in podiatric schools has decreased significantly since 2015, making podiatrists one of the most in-demand doctors in the United States.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY |
Tips for Navigating the ACO Landscape
If a medical practice is looking to join an ACO in 2025, they should start their considerations well in advance so they can stay ahead of this year’s August 1st deadline for participation in CMS models in 2025. This timeline allows for comprehensive research and analysis, ensuring that practices align with an ACO that best suits their needs. ACOs can also have a lot of similarities on paper, but with a deliberate approach, providers can avoid the pitfalls of rushing into a decision and instead focus on understanding what each ACO offers, how they manage and operate, and speak to references within the network.
3. Finding the right program track
One of the initial considerations for providers is determining the type of ACO program that aligns with their practice, including, among others, the ACO Realizing Equity, Access, and Community Health (REACH) or the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), and the various tracks within each. Understanding the distinction between these two value-based programs is crucial for practices, particularly in how surpluses and deficits are calculated and the different payment models for primary care services (e.g. fee-for-service or monthly capitation payments). Additionally, providers must be aware that not all ACOs operate across both programs, with some exclusively offering ACO REACH or MSSP, or specific tracks in each, thus forcing providers into one of those programs rather than identifying which is best for the practice. Understanding the nuances of each program is essential for making an informed decision.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 1A |
From: Jon Purdy, DPM
Regarding the post from Dr. Tomczak, I did find that very amusing. I don’t intend to do a back and forth on this, but suffice it to say, I never put someone’s name in print without their permission. I’m sure that person would have been fine with it had I asked.
All associations post-covid have struggled, which necessitated change. As treasurer of the American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management, there has been change required of our own organization. We welcome constructive criticism, as it helps us improve and grow. It’s no different for the APMA. Time will tell, but I like the vibe they are currently putting out, and its leaders seem to be in tune with positive change.
Jon Purdy, DPM, New Iberia, LA

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 1B |
From: Robert Kornfeld, DPM
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Dr. Tomczak's post about how exciting it is to have a new APMA administration that finally understands what is happening and is going to do something about it. Well, I am a 1980 graduate of NYCPM. If you do the math, I graduated 44 years ago. And during all 4 1/2 decades that I have been a podiatrist, APMA has been "working" on making things better for us. Sometimes, they work "hard" at making things better. Yet, in all these years, not only has it not gotten better, it has gotten so much worse.
I won't go into details about my personal issue with my own NYSPMA which I quit many years ago, but what I will say is if anyone out there wants to make things better, you need to stop counting on APMA and do it yourself. When I realized that nothing was changing for the better, I decided to do it myself. And to be honest, my efforts to improve my professional experience all paid off without dues to an organization that is always working hard for us but never seems to accomplish what they promise.
I'm sure I'll catch some backlash for this, but my career is nearly over and I don't care what they have to say about me and my opinions. Of course, what I have already heard is if I'm not a dues-paying member, then I'm part of the problem. Nah. My career was amazing in spite of, not thanks to, APMA.
Robert Kornfeld, DPM, NY, NY
