TN Podiatrist Discusses Hyperhidrosis

Conditions like hyperhidrosis, which causes excessive sweating, can lead to skin on the foot peeling. The constant wetness around the feet can result in trench foot, a disease so called because it was rife in the trenches of the First World War. It begins with reddened, tingling feet, which change in color and develop blisters which eventually burst and peel. It can be very serious if left untreated, even resulting in amputation.

Dr. Mark Hinkes

Good foot hygiene is important in preventing this condition. "Take antibacterial soap and a soft toothbrush to scrub in between the toes," says Dr. Mark Hinkes. "Rinsing and drying is very important. I recommend using a hairdryer on the cool setting to make sure your foot gets dry." Find out what else your sweat reveals about your health.

Ill-Fitting Sneakers Can Cause Toenail Trauma: NY Podiatrist

According to New York podiatrist Dr. Hal Abrahamson of Aadvanced Foot Care Associates, toenails fall off from getting traumatized in the toe box of an ill-fitting pair of sneakers. In order to avoid this, it is important to find the right sneakers!

Dr. Hal Abrahamson

Dr. Abrahamson dropped some major sneaker knowledge, saying, "I prefer my runners to look for a sneaker that is flexible just behind the toes. The sneaker should be sturdy and not too flexible in the middle of the foot. It should also be made of materials that allow the foot to breathe. The rear of the sneaker should be stiff, especially in the area that surrounds the back of the heel. There should be plenty of shock absorption in the heel as well."

Amazon, JPMorgan, Berkshire Hathaway Unveil New Company to Lower Healthcare Costs

Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway, and JPMorgan Chase are teaming up to form a healthcare company to serve their U.S. workers in yet another example of large employers taking employee healthcare matters into their own hands to reduce costs.

Details on the new venture were sparse, but the companies said early Tuesday that they will leverage their combined scale and expertise to develop technology solutions to provide employees and their families "simplified, high-quality and transparent healthcare at a reasonable cost."

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY
Ways to Become a 5-Star Physician in Reviews - Part 3

3. The Good and the Bad

"There is a plethora of technology that makes it effortless to solicit feedback from your patients, both good and bad. Positive reviews are key to boosting your online reputation, but capturing the negative ones can also allow you to learn and improve your practice." - Matt Buder Shapiro, chief marketing officer, patient engagement and relationship firm MedPilot, New York, NY.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 2
From: Name Withheld

A few years ago, a well-respected practitioner passed away in an untimely manner. He had a long standing practice that was busy from day until night, a modern office in a building affiliated with a top hospital and well-trained staff. His practice continued in the interim with help from volunteers, but when his family tried to sell it, they could not get a reasonable offer for the practice; not even an unreasonable one.

Instead, someone who purported to be “a friend” opened up a new office in the same building and poached the patients with a blitz of advertising. Setting up the new office and the professional marketing campaign cost maybe 20% of what he would have paid the family. Within a couple of months, he enjoyed the same busy practice, in a modern office, affiliated with a top hospital and with a well-trained staff. And he had paid pennies on the dollar.

I came to believe at that moment, after decades in this business, that a practice has no inherent value. It is no longer the “retirement account” waiting for us. If I had it to do over, I wouldn’t consider buying a practice. I would open one near an older practice and with marketing’s help become the newest, best-trained, most modern option available. Face it. Patients love the next new thing. Only our older patients look for long-term relationships, and they aren’t going to help sustain a practice. Patients these days look on Yelp for ratings to make their healthcare choices!

YOU CAN'T MAKE THESE THINGS UP
Risk Of Going Barefoot: Hookworm Parasites Infect Canadian Couple

This is a compelling commercial for shoes. A Canadian couple Katie Stephens, 22, and Eddie Zytner, 25, vacationing in the Dominican Republic showed why not wearing shoes made them suffer "de feet'. As described by Jackie Dunham for CTV, their feet began to itch after they walked barefoot in the sand at the IFA Villas Bavaro Resort in Punta Cana.

Cutaneous larva migrans

Initially, the couple thought that they just had sand flea bites. But on January 19, a day after they returned to Windsor, Ontario, from their week-long vacation, Zytner noticed that his feet were beginning to swell. Soon both he and Stephens had developed swollen feet with painful blisters.
