CMS Launches Data Submission System for Clinicians in QPP

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that doctors and other eligible clinicians participating in the Quality Payment Program (QPP) can begin submitting their 2017 performance data using a new system on the Quality Payment Program website (qpp.cms.gov). The data submission system is an improvement from the former systems under the CMS legacy programs, which required clinicians to submit data on multiple websites.

Now, eligible clinicians will use the new system to submit their 2017 performance data for the Quality Payment Program during the 2017 submission period which runs from January 2, 2018 to March 31, 2018, except for groups using the CMS Web Interface whose submission period is January 22, 2018 to March 16, 2018.

HEALTHCARE NEWS
Physicians Rank Fourth of Trusted Professions

Physicians remain among the most trusted professionals in America, although nurses continue to take the top spot in the annual Gallup poll on honesty and ethics. "Medical doctors" were rated as having high or very high ethics by 65% of those polled, behind nurses (82%), military officers (71%), and grade school teachers (66%).

Those ranked lowest were lobbyists (8%), car salespeople (10%), members of Congress (11%), and advertising practitioners (12%). Physicians' ratings have remained about the same over the years, dropping a bit since a high of 70% in 2012.

Essential Provisions to Include in EHR Contracts  -  Part 9

As more healthcare providers are considering potential changes in electronic health records, it's time to take a fresh look at the contracts they are signing. Providers need to insert more protections in their legal documents as they make decisions to change vendors.

6. Specify Support Requirements and Ensure Flexibility

Support agreements with an EHR vendor also can be complex in terms of what is required in terms of service and its cost. "Support agreements can be very lengthy, and providers need to have a good "out" provision, so you don't have to buy support from the vendor," says Corinne Smith who has worked for Seton Healthcare Family and UT Health Center San Antonio with complex healthcare interactions and contracting.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL)
RE: The National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB)
From: Richard B Willner, DPM

The National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) is a 20-year experiment created by an act of Congress along with the Health Care Quality Improvement Act of 1986 (HCQIA). The experiment has failed. It is time to abolish this agency. The NPDB is a blacklist reminiscent of the McCarthy blacklist of the 50s. Instead of targeting the Red Menace, or Communists, the target of this blacklist of the White Menace: "Bad Doctors."

The problem is that too many good doctors' names are submitted to this list. And it is disturbingly easy to do. The perception is, if a doctor is included on this list, they must be a bad doctor; otherwise, why are they on the list? The consequences of a listing are dire. As a result of a listing in this "databank", many...
